Cinque, Quattro, and Tre at the scene of the massacre they had perpetrated

The Combat Cyborg Incident was a combat engagement between a TSAB investigation team led by Zest Grangaitz and Jail Scaglietti's Combat Cyborgs in 0067.

Background[]

To study the ancient secrets of Belka and Al-Hazard, the TSAB High Council created Jail Scaglietti, an Artificial Mage with genius intellect. However, their creation soon proved uncontrollable, engaging in illegal experiments while keeping his creators complicite with the results of his research. Most prominently amongst Scaglietti's unethical exploits were his innovations on Combat Cyborg technology and working with Presea Testarossa on Project Fate.

Concurrently, Regius Gaiz rose to prominence within the Ground Armaments Service, seeking the strengthen the branch after years of neglect. His efforts garnered him the Council's support and through them he became affiliated with Scaglietti, whom he had build weapons for him. However, the scheme was in danger of being exposed when a team led by captain Zest Grangaitz strumbled upon two cyborgs and subsequently began investigating the scientist. Being close friends, Regius tried to pursuade Zest into ignoring the case, but the latter refused; thus, the decision was made to dispose of the investigation team.

Timeline[]

While the exact events of the incident remain unknown, Zest and his team presumably found one of Scaglietti's labs. However, it was a trap and they were ambushed by the scientist's Combat Cyborgs, who seemingly made short work of the team using their Inherent Skills and Anti Magilink Fields.

Aftermath[]

In the aftermath, the TSAB's investigation team was massacred, with the sole survivor, Megane Alpine, being left in a coma. While Regius was devastated upon learning of Zest's death, he nontheless covered up the incident to keep his connection to Scaglietti hidden. Although this drew the suspision of individuals like commander Genya Nakajima, who lost his wife in the incident, there was nothing people of their low rank could do about it.

Scaglietti took advantage of the incident to acquire some of the investigation team's corpses as samples for his research. He kept Megane in an artificial coma and took custody of her daughter, Lutecia, tricking the girl that he would revive her mother for assisting him in his illegal activities. He also took Zest's corpse to experiment with Project Fate. However, without Presea's assistance, the resulting clone was sub-par and religated to Lutecia's bodyguard, being complicite with Scaglietti's crimes to protect his new ward.

The truth of the Combat Cyborg Incident would not be uncovered until after the JS Incident, during which Scaglietti publicly exposed Regius and the Council as his "sponsors". Amidst the chaos, Zest's clone infiltrated the Mid-GH to inquire Regius as to why he betrayed his original, only for the latter to be assassinated alongside the Council under Scaglietti's orders before he could answer. Afterward, the clone died a warrior's death at the hands of Signum, with him passing on all intel he had on the Combat Cyborg Incident in his final moments. As a result, Genya claimed that the TSAB was finally able to close the book on the Combat Cyborg Incident.
